The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit

  • 1. Wisdom

Wisdom allows us to see things from God’s perspective and value heavenly things above earthly ones. It helps us prioritize what truly matters and discern God’s presence and will in all areas of life. With wisdom, we grow in a deep love for God and long for union with Him.

  • 2. Understanding

Understanding helps us grasp the deeper meaning of the truths of the faith. It’s not just about knowing doctrines, but about penetrating them with the heart so they transform how we see ourselves, others, and God. This gift helps us believe and live with clarity and conviction.

  • 3. Counsel (Right Judgment)

Counsel guides us in making good moral decisions according to God’s will. When faced with tough choices, this gift helps us pause, pray, and discern what path aligns with God’s truth. It also gives us the courage to advise others with charity and humility.

  • 4. Fortitude (Courage)

Fortitude strengthens us to overcome fear and remain steady in the face of trials, persecution, or difficulty in doing what is right. It gives us spiritual endurance to live our faith boldly, even when it’s unpopular or hard.

  • 5. Knowledge

Knowledge helps us see the world and our lives as God does, recognizing the passing nature of earthly things and the importance of our relationship with Him. It shows us the path to holiness by helping us avoid false paths and distractions.

  • 6. Piety (Reverence)

Piety inspires us to worship God and love Him as a beloved Father. It fosters a joyful obedience and heartfelt devotion, not out of fear, but out of love. This gift also deepens our love and respect for others as children of the same Father.

  • 7. Fear of the Lord (Wonder and Awe)

Fear of the Lord fills us with a profound respect for God’s greatness and a desire not to offend Him. It’s not about being afraid of God, but being in awe of His majesty and goodness, and recognizing our smallness before Him. This leads to true humility and devotion.
