Biography

Saint Peregrine Laziosi was born into a wealthy family in Forlì, Italy. As a young man, he was anti-Catholic and even opposed the Church. However, after an encounter with Saint Philip Benizi, whom he struck in the face, Peregrine had a conversion experience. Philip forgave him and prayed for him, leading Peregrine to change his ways and dedicate his life to God.

He later joined the Servite Order (Order of the Servants of Mary) and became known for his austere life, deep prayer, and care for the sick and poor. He developed cancer in his leg, and doctors planned to amputate it. The night before surgery, he prayed before a crucifix and was miraculously healed. Because of this, he became the patron saint of those suffering from cancer and serious illnesses.

Peregrine lived to be over 80 years old, continuing his ministry until his death in 1345.
