Biography

St. Bonaventure, known as the “Seraphic Doctor,” was a Franciscan theologian, philosopher, and mystic. He studied at the University of Paris, where he became a leading scholar and a close associate of St. Thomas Aquinas. As Minister General of the Franciscans, he strengthened the Order’s spiritual and intellectual foundations. He played a key role in the Second Council of Lyon and died during the council. His writings emphasize the union of faith and reason, the love of God, and mystical theology.
