Biography

Saint Joseph was the earthly father of Jesus Christ and the husband of the Virgin Mary. He was a humble carpenter and a righteous man who obeyed God’s will. The Gospel of Matthew describes how he accepted Mary’s divine pregnancy and protected her and Jesus, fleeing to Egypt to escape King Herod’s massacre of infants. He provided for the Holy Family and raised Jesus with love and faith. Though not much is recorded about his later life, tradition holds that he died before Jesus’ public ministry, in the presence of Jesus and Mary.
