Biography
Padre Pio, born Francesco Forgione, was a Capuchin friar, priest, and mystic who became widely known for his deep spirituality and extraordinary gifts, such as the stigmata (wounds of Christ), bilocation, healing, and prophecy. He entered the Capuchin Order at the age of 15 and was ordained a priest in 1910. After his ordination, Padre Pio lived much of his life in seclusion, particularly in the monastery of San Giovanni Rotondo. His stigmata, which he bore for most of his life, drew the attention of many. He also had a reputation for healing and other miraculous occurrences. Despite being misunderstood and criticized by some Church officials, he became a popular spiritual leader and is venerated worldwide for his holiness, humility, and deep faith.
